About Us

Church Location
St Mark's is located in Granville, 10 minutes by car from Parramatta CBD which is the geographical heart of Sydney and has a large Westfield Shopping complex and the beautiful Parramatta Park & Heritage area containing historical houses. Granville is situated 25 kilometres west from the City of Sydney CBD and on the main train line to the Blue Mountains, which are 35 minutes away by car along the expressway.
Church History
The foundation stone of St Mark's church was laid in 1882. The architect was the famous Edmund Blacket, who designed many important NSW churches. He died in 1883, and his son Cyril took over the project. The church was eventually completed in several stages. Its memorials include a window recording parishioners who enlisted in World War 1. The columbarium wall was built after World War II. St Mark's stands as a tribute to the vision and faith of Granville's pioneers, and their vicissitudes over two world wars and the depressions of the 1890's and 1930's.

Church Today
St Mark's functions today as a place of liturgical Anglican worship, an open,
welcoming & inclusive fellowship of Christians seeking to love and serve God better.
Our church has a long tradition of celebrating the Holy Communion every Sunday Morning at 9:00 am.
This service is conducted according to the 1995 APBA prayer book & is soundly Bible based.
This parish has become a multicultural parish under the leadership of Rev Canon David Wong since 2010 when Chinese services were added. A Nepalese congregation also uses our premises every Saturday night for worship services.
Pipe Organ/Choir
The Organ at St Mark's, built by the Dublin firm of Telford & Telford, is the only example of their work known in Australia.
They were regarded as the Irish equal of the English Willis firm and were well known organ builders in the nineteenth century in Ireland.
In 1890 Telford & Telford were commissioned to build an organ for Holy Trinity Sunday School, Kelso, near Bathurst.
Its opening recital was 10 February 1891.
In 1935 St Alban's, Epping bought the organ and had Charles W Leggo rebuild it at Epping with additions.
In 1968 Hill, Norman & Beard rebuilt the organ at Epping adding Fifteenth, Mixture & Octave Flute.
It was bought by St Mark's and re-erected on site with the addition of the trumpet stop from the previous Leggo organ and dedicated in May 1988.
